I was educated at Central College in Pella, Iowa and
the University of London. After I received my BFA in
art, I worked at Sticks, Inc. for five years as a painter.
I am a member of the Paint Pushers, a critiquing group, www.paintpushers.com. My work is also exhibited at the Gortz Haus Gallery, Grimes, Iowa; Arte, East Village, Des Moines, Iowa , and The Galerie of Pella, Pella, Iowa. My work can also be seen at www.briarpatchheirlooms.com.

My paintings are an extension of myself. My faith
is the biggest part of my life, and I hope to convey my love for
God. While I am creating, I am in the act of worshipping and
painting a journal to Him. It is my desire that others see my
work and are inspired to seek the first creator.
The process I use when making my abstract paintings
is layering color, shapes and cutouts. There are up to eight
layers in each of the pieces.
I start by creating a problem, compositionally. I start by randomly placing together torn pieces of paper and layering color. The effects are normally something I couldn't have predicted and add depth to the pieces. I then add organic shaped paper cutouts.
Drawings, patterns, or floral designs from textiles are used with layers upon layers of mediums under the surface of the cutouts. The painting is transformed into a sculpture like work with this manipulation of the surface area. Then I seek to add order to the chaos. Geometric straight lined shapes are layered with an array of colors. I seek to mimic creation with the complex yet simple order to everything that exists.
I love patterns and integrating subtle elements to my work with pastels, charcoal and lettering. Finally, each piece is finished with the Word of God. As I respond to the painting, God reveals the verse that He wants to be used. It always fits the piece in different ways, and my hope is that the viewer will see the relationship between the Word and my work.
